About Us
All Fur Fun is a small anthropomorphics convention happening April 18-20, 2008 in Spokane, Washington. Our main goals are for everyone to have fun, make new friends, and maybe even learn a thing or two!
What is "anthropomorphic" or "furry"?
The word "anthropomorphic" means to give an animal or object human characteristics. For the purposes of our convention, this is the ability for animals to speak, walk on two legs, have human stature, or any other number of things that would normally be present in humans. Good examples of this can be pulled from Disney's Robin Hood, in which all the characters were upright-walking, talking animals. But an animal doesn't have to walk on two legs (commonly called "anthro") to be anthropomorphic. Non-anthro refers to an animal that walks on four legs, but has, usually, the intelligence and speech capabilities of a human (such as in Disney's Lion King.) The animals given all these qualities are also commonly referred to as "furries" although the fans of such are called furries as well.
Why have a convention based on furries?
And why not? There are conventions based on many different kinds of fandoms. Anime, sci-fi, fantasy and gaming conventions happen all over the world many times a year. Furries can fit within each of these fandoms, but work very well as a fandom on its own. Furry is kept alive by the art created in its name, and fans can create their own characters to draw and have drawn. Furry also means something different to each person in the fandom you talk to. Whether it's purely an artistic outlet, something fun to be part of, something spiritual or deeper... it's about being individual and having fun!
What's this year's theme?
The theme for All Fur Fun 2009 is "Ancient Greece". Step back in time to when Athens (or Sparta) were in their heyday... only fuzzier. Come to Spokane and Get your Greek On!
Note that, in keeping with the theme, we'll likely use parts of our website's color scheme at the convention, as well as images of Greek columns, classical armor-wear, etc. We'd like to emphasize that this is not a dress code, however - your average street clothes are perfectly welcome, as are any costumes and fursuits you wish to wear. We're just promoting a fun and friendly theme for everyone to enjoy.
